Where to next?
If I feel like something good is coming I generally keep my mouth shut, as if speaking it too soon may keep it from happening.  Occasionally, I’ll tell my closest friends what “may” happen, being ever so careful not to make assumptions or build something up that may never be. However, for the most part, I don’t speak it until its really going to happen. So, when I was asked...

I'm back!
As I walked out of Customs in Atlanta, a large elderly African American man said”welcome home baby.” I smiled, welcome home indeed. There were several troops on my flight and there were large thank you and welcome home signs and people cheering outside customs and baggage claim. Im not always the most patriotic person but it made me proud to be an American and that much more thankful...

"My last day" or "I'm about to blow your mind"
My blog is about to become a Tarantino movie.   There will not be gory slow motion samurai sword fights or funky dance numbers brilliantly choreographed, intensely dramatic and scored by “You never can tell” (yeah, I totally dropped a Pulp Fiction reference, aren’t I edgy and cool?)  However, I am about to blow your mind and employ a fractured timeline. I’m skipping to the...

Khmer is funny
While I’m trying to catch up on last week there is still stuff going on this week.  I probably need to stop putting so much pressure on myself to write everything ;)  Just now I learned that in Khmer “kle” (this is how it sounds to me not how it is spelled I’m sure) means Tiger and “Kla-ung” means big but if you put it together “Kle Kla-ung” it...

Tuesdays in Takam
Last Tuesday morning we got up early, loaded into vans and headed for Takam Village. In this village, PCL has built several homes, started a rice bank, and English Classes. Takam is also is the location where we have our integrated farm. Anyu, the man who we assisted to get a 4 pound tumor removed from his face, is the caretaker of the farm.  As I prepped the team in the morning I thought about...

In the interest of catching up....
My team has been gone for 2 days I think….after a few weeks here I typically lose all concept of time.  Abby and I were talking to a guy at the DVD store who asked us how long we had been here and we both hesitated and shot a “I have no idea, do you?” look at each other.  The man laughed and said, “well then you’ve been here long enough! No one ever knows what day it...

youth camp summary
So much for blogging every day :)   The second day of camp things got a little crazy and pretty much stayed that way until the team left last night.  A group of 22 people from Seneca, South Carolina joined my team of 32 at the camp where we were hosting about 85 Cambodian young people and working with 15 of our Khmer staff.  Needless to say, their were a lot of logistics and management going on...
